Celebrate Brooklyn! Bridge Dance Party featuring Booker T. Jones

Celebrate Brooklyn! Bridge Dance Party featuring Booker T. Jones

May 10, 2012 Having originally played with the house band for Memphis' Stax Records, Booker T. Jones (Booker T. and the MG's) helped define the sound of southern soul in the 60s while backing luminaries such as Otis Redding and Bill Withers. Since then, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has kept the soul flowing. Jones' 2011 release The Road from Memphis was met with high praise from critics including NPR's Bob Boilen who said "After all these years, he remains so soulful, and so good." The album included cameos from Lou Reed, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Sharon Jones and Matt Berninger (The National) and was backed by The Roots' Questlove (drums), "Captain" Kirk Douglas (guitar) and Owen Biddle (bass) as well as former Motown guitarist Dennis Coffey and percussionist Stewart Killen. Rich Medina, one of New York's favorite DJs, warmed up the evening with a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul. www.bricartsmedia.org
